A trip to Asia 2008

A few pictures from our trip to China, Philippines and Vietnam. Most of you know Siukay who worked at Daisy Kingdom in the art dept. We went on the trip together. He still works with me now. It was a working trip and it was really nice having someone that spoke Chinese and also worked on the product as well. He is such a GREAT help...

The first pictures shows one of my Philippine daughter Razel. The house in the background is the kind of home most live in. This year I put water into the little village so they do not have to walk over a mile to get water. All the people are very happy about the water faucet. She is married now and has two boys. She graduated from college in the Philippines and got her masters degree here in Portland at PSU in business. Now, she has graduated from nursing school and is getting ready to take the International exam. My other Philippine daughter Abegail is doing the same thing and will graduate from nursing school by the end of summer. They both want to move here to Portland with their families. I would LOVE to have them here. Now they can take care of me when I get old.

The second picture shows a side street in Vietnam with all the moter bikes. It is very hard to cross the street. I LOVED Vietnam!!!! It is like old China. We were looking for manufacturer of our recyclable bags. I still like our old company in China best but, you need to keep looking for what is new and better.

The next three pictures are a very wonderful little village in China. I would Love to live in that village.

Next picture is a beautiful little Chinese girl. I just had to take her picture. She is so cute.

Then a picture of Siukay and I shopping in Shanghai and me at the Shanghai harbor. It truly is a beautiful city. It is the new window to the world. It has taken over Hong Kongs place for shipping.

A picture of Siukays friend Beauty and her husband John. They went to the same church here in Portland that Siukay does. John runs a BIG computer company that was in Portland and now is in Shanghai. Also standing next to me is Eugene our agent for Patty Reed Insta Totes in China. Eugene did a lot of things for Daisy Kingdom also. We all had a wonderful dinner together.

A booth at the Canton Fair that we design for. The chicken and egg items were all done by Li Mai who also works with us. He was at D.K. for many years also.

Siukay and I were in Asia for about three weeks. We had a GREAT time and got a lot of work done. I wish I could take you all with us. Wouldn't that be fun. We would need Undine to make that happen. Many times Undine and I travel together on these trip. Two crazy American women in China together. I usually go at least twice a year.

On my next trip I will be taking Li Mai. Li has not been back to China since he left there many years ago. I hope we will get to go see his family home. It is not to far from the where we go to the Canton fair. The home is empty and closed up since the whole family moved to the USA.

Nice to stay in touch

Hello fellow DKr's. Thanks to Patty for starting this blog and give us a chance to catch up with each other and maybe stay in better contact.

As most know I consider DK some of the best days of my life personally and professionally. You have no idea how much I miss it. I could go on and on about that..... but......

On occassion I do get to see some fellow DKr's down at Schenck. Schenck was lucky enough to get Gail and Gail has hooked me up with some display gigs in the warehouse and I have even become an instructor to fabric shop owners teaching display workshops for the last 2 Trend Shows. That's been a kick in the old creative pants and very humbling. While at Schenck I've run into Nancy, Jodie, Judith and of course Tim.

Still taking care of Michael up here on our property in Washougal. Still have all the animals and so much responsibility doesn't allow me to get out much.

Bless Ada's soul for pulling us together and very heart warming to have her son Ed extend the invitation to us to join his family at the restaurant after her service. Am going to attempt to upload some pics from our time there.

Patty - what a coincidence to receive your blog request today.  Keri is expecting a little boy (first grandchild) at the end of the month and this afternoon I was looking for fabric to line a baby carrier for her.  Her nursery motif features monkeys and I found this great fabric with monkeys in just the right colors.  I couldn't believe it when I rolled the fabric out - it's one of yours!

She and Luke are in Michigan where Luke is in graduate school.

Michael is a credit analyst for Cenex in Minneapolis and his wife, Heidi, is finishing up her second year of vet school.

Eric is here in Colorado and he and Megan have a July wedding planned.

Curves is doing well.  With more than 450 members, I've made a lot of new friends here in Colorado.  I do miss Oregon, but can't complain about how much sunshine we have.  And it's great to be close to my folks and my brothers and their families.

Hi Everyone

Hi Everyone, This blog has been designed to help keep all our old Daisy Kingdom friends in contact with each other. The only time in the past we have stayed in touch is during a memorial service and a lot of people thought a blog would keep us in touch on a happier basis. So here we go.....

Tim and I have moved to SW Portland up above Portland State University. We enjoy the great view of Mt. Hood, the valley with the river and all the bridges. We have been here three years. But the nicest part of all is that I have my business on the lowest level of the house, so I just have to walk down two flights of stairs to go to work.....yes this is retirement my style !!!

I still design patterns for Simplicity under the name Patty Reed Designs. We design fabric for Fabric Traditions in New York City. And my latest venture has been designing reuseable shopping tote bags for Fred Meyer, Kroger and many small companies around the country. It has been such fun because I have been able to do this with Sandy Askew a long time friend and former Daisy Kingdom employee. She and her husband Wayne handle our warehouse, shipping, and online orders. Also working for me today are three former DK employees Laurie Campbell, Li Mai, and Siukay Wong.

Tim retired for a year and was bored stiff so he started culinary school and loved it, and I have loved the results. But after six months of school he had a call from EE Schenck company, the fabric distributor in Portland, Oregon. They desperately needed him to come to work as their National Sales Manager. When he realized the pay cut he was taking as a chef, he decided working in his own field looked pretty good.

Enough about us. Ada Fessler, our beloved friend passed away on January 3, 2009. A lot of you were able to attend the Memorial service and it was so much fun getting together, even under those circumstances, so let's make an effort to stay in touch and stay connected.
